Passo Duran by bike

Less well known than the great Dolomite classics, Passo Duran is the ideal climb for anyone after serious gradients and almost no traffic, immersed in the wild nature of the Agordino.

Route data

  • Start: Agordo
  • Finish: Passo Duran (1,605 m)
  • Length: 12.1 km
  • Elevation gain: 994 m
  • Average gradient: 8.2% (max 15.2%)
  • Surface: asphalt (SP347)
  • Difficulty: demanding

From Agordo the SP347 provincial road climbs decisively towards the Duran, in a succession of ramps that almost never let up: the 8.2% average hides sections well above 15%, especially in the hairpins before the pass. The landscape grows steadily wilder, between spruce woods and the walls of the Duranno and Moiazza groups, until the summit opens onto the Val di Zoldo and the Civetta group. It is a perfect climb for anyone who likes riding in peace, far from the tourist traffic of the more famous passes.

Did you know?

Passo Duran is the most direct route between the Agordino and the Val di Zoldo and was for centuries an important trading link; it still keeps an authentic feel today, little tamed by mass tourism.

Where does the name Duran come from? Possibly from a stream. The hypotheses and their limits are gathered on the page Why the Dolomite passes have the names they do.
