Riding gravel with the Tre Cime di Lavaredo as a backdrop is an experience few other places in the world can offer: a route alternating asphalt and gravel among some of the most iconic landscapes in the Dolomites.

Setting off from the Auronzo di Cadore area, the route skirts Lake Misurina, a mirror of water set among the mountains and one of the most photographed in the Dolomites, before heading onto gravel roads climbing towards the plateau at the foot of the Tre Cime. The surface alternates fast-rolling stretches with more technical sections, with a total ascent of around 1,600 metres that calls for trained legs and a well-equipped gravel bike. The views, between Dolomite spires and larch woods, repay every effort, especially in autumn when the larches turn to gold.

The Tre Cime di Lavaredo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009 as part of the Dolomites, were also the scene of bitter fighting during the First World War: along the route you still come across traces of Austro-Hungarian and Italian trenches and fortifications.
