Monte Grappa by bike

The Grappa Massif, a sentinel between the Belluno Prealps and the Veneto plain, offers one of the longest and most complete climbs in the area, with ten different sides to choose from.

Route data

  • Start: Seren del Grappa
  • Finish: Cima Grappa (1,776 m)
  • Length: 23.8 km
  • Elevation gain: 1,441 m
  • Average gradient: 6.1% (max 17.9%)
  • Surface: asphalt
  • Difficulty: extreme

The Seren del Grappa side, in the heart of the Feltre area, is among the toughest: more than 23 kilometres of climbing which, after a steady start, turn into a succession of brutal ramps in the middle section beyond Chiesa Nuova, with gradients touching almost 18%. At the summit a 360-degree panorama opens up, from the Dolomites to the Veneto plain and, on the clearest days, all the way to the Venetian lagoon. Anyone after a gentler route can choose the side from Romano d’Ezzelino or from Bassano del Grappa, both longer but with steadier gradients.

Cima Grappa is among the most history-laden mountains in Italy: the great Military Memorial holds the remains of almost 23,000 fallen soldiers of the First World War, and the mountain has been chosen more than once by the Giro d’Italia for decisive stages.
