Made in Dolomiti 2026 in Belluno: food, crafts and traditions in Piazza dei Martiri

One square, for one day, standing in for an entire province. Made in Dolomiti brings the produce, crafts and traditions of the Belluno valleys into the provincial capital: a farm and craft market, food stands run by the Pro Loco associations, folk groups in costume, guided tours of the city. The seventh edition takes place in Piazza dei Martiri, in the historic centre of Belluno, on Sunday 13 September 2026, from 9:00 to 18:00, with an evening preview on Saturday 12 September from 18:00: Cicchetti in Piazza, together with the restaurants of the old town.

Why go: it is the one day of the year when everything normally scattered across Agordino, Cadore, Zoldo, Alpago, Comelico, Feltrino and the Valbelluna sits together, a few metres apart, in a pedestrian square. You taste, you buy, you talk to the people who make it. And you see Belluno on one of its liveliest days.

Made in Dolomiti returns to the heart of Belluno

The organisers’ own line — “Produce, Crafts, Tradition, Territory”, “the excellence of the Dolomites in a single day” — describes it well. This is not a trade fair and not a village festival: it is the annual showcase of the Belluno Pro Loco network, which for one day comes down from its own bell towers and lines up side by side in the capital.

The event is organised by the provincial committee UNPLI Belluno together with the Belluno consortia and Pro Loco associations, under the patronage of the Municipality of Belluno. Piazza dei Martiri is no accident: it is the city’s drawing room, and it sits a few steps from the historic centre that looks straight out at the Dolomites.

Admission is free. The square is pedestrian and central: it is worth leaving the car in the car parks outside the centre and walking the last few minutes.

Produce, crafts and Belluno traditions

The stalls are the heart of it. On one side the farmers: mountain-dairy cheeses, honey, soft fruit, alpine vegetables, preserves, flours, cured meats. On the other the artisans, with their stands in the square and demonstrations of old trades — still the most photographed part of the day, because they show a gesture, not just a finished object.

Anyone who wants to go deeper will find ONAF Belluno, the provincial branch of the Italian cheese tasters’ association, running a guided tasting of Belluno cheeses: half an hour is enough to understand why a dairy on one side of a valley does not make the same cheese as the one opposite. Alongside the stalls, tourist consortia and Pro Loco present the area’s autumn programme.

Cicchetti in Piazza: on Saturday evening Belluno eats out

The food side does not begin on Sunday morning. It begins on Saturday 12 September, from 18:00, when the historic centre of Belluno lights up for Cicchetti in Piazza, the preview curated by the restaurants of the old town.

A cicchetto is a form of hospitality before it is a format of food: small, eaten standing up, meant to go with a glass and a conversation. In the Veneto it is the most natural way of being together outdoors while a September evening is still warm, and it works particularly well in Belluno because the square and the streets of the centre are the right size — you move from one place to the next without ever losing sight of whoever is waiting for you.

For a visitor it is also the fastest way to get a sense of Belluno cooking without sitting down for three hours. In one evening you can run into mountain cheeses, alpine cured meats, wild herbs and the home cooking of the Dolomites reinterpreted in miniature by the people who cook it every day.

The Pro Loco parade

At 15:30 the day changes pace. The parade of the Belluno Pro Loco crosses the square with costumed groups, village banners and standards. It is the moment when Made in Dolomiti stops being a market and becomes a portrait of the province: each Pro Loco brings its own village, and in ten minutes the whole geography of the Belluno area walks past.

It is accompanied by the Sbandieratori Città di Feltre flag throwers, the Palio di Feltre costume group and the Filarmonica di Lentiai, along with folk group performances. If you only have one afternoon, this is the hour to be there.

Discovering Belluno during Made in Dolomiti

There is one more reason to put 13 September in the diary: the event includes guided tours of the city of Belluno. Visitors who come for the stalls find themselves, without planning it, with the chance to see the city explained by someone who knows it.

Piazza dei Martiri is the natural starting point: wide, tree-lined, closed on one side by its arcade. From there a few steps take you into the old town, with Piazza Duomo, the Palazzo dei Rettori and the view that opens suddenly onto the Schiara and the Nevegal. Made in Dolomiti with children

This is one of the Belluno events that works best with children, not because of a single attraction but because of how it is built. The square is pedestrian and enclosed, so you can let them run; the programme includes children’s games and the traditional games set up in the square — spinning tops, tug of war, wooden games, the ones grandparents recognise before the grandchildren do.

The rest is done by the setting: the produce on the stalls, the flag throwers, the costumes, the band. For a family it is a day that holds up on its own, with the option of eating at the Pro Loco stands instead of looking for a restaurant.
