‘Pastìn in the Square’, a Late-October Tradition

Pastìn is the typical product of the Val Belluna and our Dolomites. The original recipe, handed down for generations in our butcher shops, has gradually been adapted to meet today’s customer tastes, thus becoming the benchmark product of local Belluno gastronomy.
The PASTIN mixture, similar to sausage, is made of pork, beef and white wine, which, with the addition of particular spices, take on a pleasant and delicate aroma!

Coming to Piazza dei Martiri in Belluno, from 27 to 29 October, is the 2nd Edition of IL PASTIN IN PIAZZA… …DI CORSA (ON THE RUN).

As in 2016, this year too it will be three days of celebration for everyone, organised by Renato Bortot (in the wake of the square festival that Ascom organised around 10 years ago, before it was later abandoned).

It will be the AICS of Belluno, together with the Municipality of Belluno and the Gruppo Alpini di Salce, that will bring Piazza dei Martiri to life at the end of the month, with the collaboration of Run & Fun Oltre Team (for the “running” part).

The celebration of the quintessential Belluno food, which can be enjoyed without limits both in a sandwich and served alongside polenta, will thus be paired with a sporting challenge to be run.

A double challenge!

The races will in fact be split over two days: on Friday 27 evening, the two 2.800 km competitions called SU PER… …SCALE (UP THE… …STAIRS) will be held, reserved for young people (with an AICS Criterium) and for seniors; on Sunday 29, instead, there will be races held over a course of around 7 km, designed for the occasion by Renato Bortot, taking athletes through the city’s splendid historic centre, in a series of races ranging from the Family Run (non-competitive, 7.033 km), to the Sports Run (competitive and non-competitive, 14.066 km over two laps of the loop), to the Half Marathon (around 21 km, over 3 laps), up to the longer 42 km, with the Marathon and the Relay Marathon (open to relay teams of 3 runners x 14 km each).

With “Pastin in piazza di corsa” the aim is thus to return to Belluno’s culinary tradition, lending prestige to the city centre also through a series of side events, such as the Saturday evening concerts (with the Voci dai Cortivi and their Voci da Porta Dante and the Settantautore in Piazza concert offered by the Belluno Blood Donors Association).

The stalls offering succulent pastìn-based recipes will be the following:

• Pro Loco Limana with Macelleria Felicetti of Limana
• Gruppo Alpini di Salce with Macelleria Cavarzano of Belluno
• ASD Rugby Belluno with Macelleria Pinali of Belluno
• Macelleria Gaz of Mas di Sedico (BL)
• Macelleria Brandalise of Farra d’Alpago

Among the 5 participating butcher shops, as last year, the RE DEL PASTIN 2017 (KING OF PASTIN 2017) will be awarded.

For those who don’t fancy meat, for this year’s culinary event in the square, a cheese stall (local and Dolomite, of course!) has been included, with the participation of the Latteria di Camolino.

This year the event will feature a covered structure about 100 sqm larger than that of 2016, along the south side of the square, thus making it possible to host many more enthusiasts for what will be the PASTIN FESTIVAL.
